Hack: Sweatshirt Overlay Tracksuit with Hoodie

After some fabulous inspiration from my colleague Maria, I decided to attempt making this tracksuit with net overlay. I'm very happy with how it turned out, it adds something extra to the tracksuit.

Using the Oversized Tee with hood from Ellie and Mac I added a neck zipper, then had to section the sleeves and bottoms into three pieces so I could insert the net overlays where I wanted them, not forgetting to add a little extra to each section to count for the seam allowance. Finally I shortened the length of the legs just a little for a three-quarter length look and added my matching rib cuff.

Made using the grey sweatshirt, matching rib and net overlay fabrics.

At The Stitch Festival

Photo of Donna, Sarah and Ashley at the Stitch Festival
Donna, Sarah & Ashley at Stitch Fest!

We had a fab time in the Stitch Festival at the Business Design Centre, London. Donna and I arrived early around 11am shortly after opening, and had a good look around. We found the amazing Sarah Saunders and Eleanor Jamieson and had a good laugh.

Check out Sarah's awesome colourful makes on Instagram, she is a constant inspiration to myself and many others: https://www.instagram.com/sarah_sewciopath/

There were plenty of fabric suppliers, all different sorts from the beautiful Rose & Hubble, Liberty, and a bubble corduroy by Higgs & Higgs which was a first for me. There were also some gorgeous African wax fabrics by Dovetailed London, and many more.

We visited Tilly and the Buttons stall and I managed to get my hands on the latest exclusive Mable Pattern, I didn't get to meet Tilly so this was a real bonus! I stocked up on needles and bought an expandable sewing gauge and some Liberty fabric. The other patterns I bought were The Carrie Skirt Pattern by Vanessa Hansen Studio and The Shirt to Stockbridge Top Pattern by Greyfriars and Grace.

There were some lovely garment designs by GCSE students from King's Ely School, with their textile design work wonderfully on display. Using different materials and textures in these sleeveless designs has certainly given me some inspiration for future makes.

Of course we had to check out the latest machines from Brother, Babylock, Juki and more. I'm thinking about upgrading my current setup so it was good to see all the options available. I'm leaning towards Juki as they look and feel more industrial and capable of keeping up with daily use!

The masked singer costume towered over stalls at the design centre, I just had to get a photo with it, I don't really watch the show but might now it has a crafty angle. Worn by Claire Richard from Steps on the Masked Singer.

The Complete Spring Collection From Petite Stitchery

Spring is finally here and Petite Stitchery have just released the perfect spring collection. Four different patterns which all work together. Molly comes in a crop, top and dress length with these amazing sleeves.

You can have a ruffle or simple elastic neckline, lot's of sleeve options from tiered long sleeves like mine, or short, 3/4 or long simple elastic hem. I used a plisse fabric which worked really well, Molly can be made in knit or woven fabrics.

Tegan is a tiered dress loaded with lots of details and an extra gorgeous tiered skirt is sure to leave you spinning. Tegan options are, flutter or bishop sleeves, dress lengths come in mini, knee and midi dress length. It has a bit of gathering but well worth it. I used a Valentino crepe blush pink and baby blue for summer colours.

Reese corset tank, is super cute has the options of strapless or tank. You can have a straight hem or a more tapered shape which is what I made, with a zip up back in a beautiful rib knit. Reese pairs so well with the Stella slit skirt which is a high waisted and can be dressed up or down. Options are mini, knee or maxi length, 2 slits lengths and can add shorties to attach the skirt. I used a black croc leatherette which gave me a cool rock chick look.

Patina Blouse By Friday Pattern Company

OMG I'm in love with how my Patina blouse turned out from the Friday Pattern Company! I did add some length to make it more tunic length to wear with legging, I also made a little tie belt so can be warm with or without. The beautiful stripe broidery anglaise fabric was lovely to work with and paired with some legging made out of the croc faux leather. To top it all off I made matching covered buttons. They come as pdf or printed paper patterns.

The Miss Polar Sweater Dress from Sofiona Designs

Just made my first ever Sofiona pattern and it had to be the Polar pattern. I went for the knee length back taken 2 inches off for my height and played around with the front length between knee and shirt. I went for pockets, hood and turtleneck to keep me warm. Love the welt design on the hood for the drawstring. I used a khaki and burgundy fleece back sweatshirt and matching ribbing.

Marieke Wrap Dress from Ellie and Mac

I can finally share the amazing Marieke wrap dress from Ellie and Mac. Its a genuine wrap dress that comes in 2 lengths and short or bishop sleeve. I wanted to try and use 2 fabrics to show off the style which worked well, so then I tried it with another fabric too. This is a bubble knit, red ponte and the one print is a scuba crepe.

Lunar Romper from George & Ginger

Here is the new release of the Lunar Romper from George & Ginger which comes with a projector file and pdf. Lunar is a great pattern to look cute but feel very comfy. It's a all in 1 design with a shelf bra attached to the shorts under with pockets. I've used an ITY and jersey for sleeves, ties and side of shorts.

Hughes Dress from Friday Pattern Company

You all saw me working on my Hughes Dress from Friday Pattern Company. Using this lovely cotton twill and its finished, with a few less poppers on the skirt for my liking I feel on my next on I will make a few adjustments to the front bodice and maybe go shorter in length. Overall for the first time trying this pattern, I've made it wearable.

Brielle Jumpsuit Pattern by Designer Stitch

The beautiful Brielle Jumpsuit is here from Designer Stitch.

It's super comfy, breast feeding friendly and perfect for summer. Comes in different lengths and sleeve options, I went for the bishop sleeve as I love them right now, with crop leg. Made in this lovely soft ITY. I have also been thinking it can be made into a 2 piece, so keep a lookout as I will be trying it.
